Consulting

Goal: Clients will look at all pertinent aspects of the decision under consideration, including positives and negatives of all likely outcomes and what they can do to maximize the probability of an acceptable outcome.

As a consultant, Hal does not make decisions for clients.  Instead he helps them combine their knowledge of their business with his decision-making knowledge and skills.  The client is the expert on the business and must live with the decision.  However Hal helps clients be certain that all reasonable information is available, all objectives and stakeholders considered, and that clients consider appropriately all aspects of the question. He starts with a process called "vigilant information processing," developed by Mann and Janis.  However Hal has added means of dealing with uncertainty to their technique.   Applying the science of probabilty helps deal with lack of information and other causes of uncertainty.  This organized approach assures better decisions.

Of course as an outsider he can also bring in a different viewpoint, helping avoid the dangers of emotional involvement and tunnel vision so common to human nature.

Most consulting utilizes the subjects covered in the seminars, but it is decision-specific and better suited for one or two people than is a seminar. Therefore the seminar descriptions give prospective clients an introduction to the help consultation can offer.  See the Seminars page for more infomation.
